Recent research has demonstrated that chromium picolinate supplements at a dose of 1000 micrograms daily improves Metabolic Syndrome. From the Proceedings of the Nutrition Society February 2008 Dr Anderson reported on the close association between chromium deficiency and Metabolic Syndrome( Syndrome X). One must remember that in scientific research one cannot say that because two conditions have a link or an association, it does not mean that one causes the other. Dr Anderson indicated that the signs of chromium deficiency are  very similar to those of the Metabolic Syndrome and supplemental chromium has been shown to improve all these signs in human subjects. In a double-blind placebo-controlled study of 60 type 2 diabetic patients it has been demonstrated that glucose, insulin, cholesterol and HbA1c are all improved in patients with type 2 diabetes following chromium supplementation. The amount and type of preparation of Chromium was significant as Chromium is poorly absorbed from the intestines, and Chromium picolinate is better absorbed than other preparations. The dose of Chromium picolinate used was 1000 micrgrams per day.
